Ascension Day and the Friday following it, the company I work for is generally closed. With three days off, I get a full week vacation! Enough time for a trip around the IJsselmeer. My goal is to complete the tour in four days. The image above shows my initial plan. The IJsselmeer lies north of Raamsdonksveer, the village where I live. Currently, I have two bikes. A road bike and a trekking bike. It’s my pleasure to introduce them to you. The road bike is a Koga Kimera Premium Beat. A full carbon bike, black with blue accents. Well, Koga says it’s blue. Maybe I am a little colour blind, but I don’t see blue, but green. This bike is assembled with Shimano Ultregra with mechanical shifting, and disc brakes. It’s the same bike, BEAT Cycling – a UCI Pro-Continental team – rides on. Their kit uses the same blue/green.

I live in Raamsdonksveer, in the province of North-Brabant. A village halfway the cities of Breda and Gorinchem. North Brabant is located directly north of Belgium. However, I grew up in the province of Limburg, in a small village at the German border. The majority of my family still lives there. Like my sister. During our phone call on Saturday, I got the impression that there was a pretty good chance to catch them at home Sunday. So, I got on my bike and rode down to Limburg. A trip of 117 km.

A trip high on my bucket list, is a tour around the IJsselmeer (Lake IJssel). The IJsselmeer used to be a bay of the North Sea, and was named the Zuiderzee (South Sea). Between 1927 and 1932, the Afsluitdijk was built, damming off the salt water Zuiderzee, and transforming it in the fresh water IJsselmeer. The Afsluitdijk is a dam with a length of 32 km, connecting Den Oever in the province of North-Holland, with the village Zurich in the province Friesland. ed traffic and is usually also accessible for cyclists.
